Why we know the houses here
Haverhill grew fast, and it grew in blocks. The Greater London Council overspill programme built the Clements estate in 1962, Parkway in 1963 and Chalkstone from 1966. Thousands of those houses are still there.
That matters on a clearance for a practical reason. Streets of the same house type mean we usually know the stairs, the loft hatch and the parking before we arrive. That is the opposite of a village cottage, where every one is different.
The older part of the town is a different job again. The lanes off the High Street are tight, so we bring a smaller van for the narrower streets.
Can the council not just take it?
Not for a whole house, and West Suffolk Council is clear about it. Its own bulky waste page says items are collected from bin collection points only. It also says it cannot collect items from inside a property or a garden. Everything has to be out by 6am, nothing over six feet by six feet, and no garden items at all.

The villages, and the county border
Haverhill sits right on the Suffolk and Essex border, so a clearance here often is not in Suffolk at all. Kedington, Withersfield, Great and Little Wratting, Steeple Bumpstead, Sturmer and Helions Bumpstead are all a few minutes out. We work both sides of the line.

What happens to it once it is on the van
It goes to a licensed site on our licence, and you get the paperwork for it. Every load leaves with a waste transfer note under Upper Tier registration CBDU634717. That number is on the Environment Agency's public register for anybody to check.
Over 95% of what we take away is recycled or reused rather than tipped.
A household recycling centre cannot take a clearance. The moment somebody is paid to remove a load, it counts as trade waste, whatever house it came out of. That is why a clearance needs an upper tier licence and a transfer station rather than the free household route.
